Bankruptcy in 4 Months? How a CEO Got $10 Million When It Was Impossible
From Dropout to CEO – A Story of Redemption
The Man Behind the Miracle
Before we dive into a story that defies the odds, let’s meet the man at the center of it.
Alejandro Doria was born on May 27th, 1975, in Monterrey, Mexico. He is the oldest of 3 brothers and currently serves as the President of Bulkmatic de Mexico, a subsidiary of Bulkmatic Transport located in Griffith, IN.
Alejandro graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in 1996 with a degree in Public Accounting. He has since completed an Executive Management Program by the IPADE Business School in Monterrey, the ONE I MBA: Master in Global Business Administration by EGADE Business School, and the Board’s member program by EGADE. He is a member of the board of directors of the AMCHAM chapter Northeast and Director at large of AMCHAM National.
With more than 29 years of experience in the Transportation and Logistics industries, Alejandro has spent the past 28 years building Bulkmatic’s presence in Mexico. He has led the development of a massive rail transloading network including over 45 kilometers of tracks, 2,300 railcar spots, over 1 million square feet of warehouse space, and 690k barrels of tankage. Under his leadership, Bulkmatic de Mexico has become the leading bulk transload and distribution company in the country, handling over 35,000 railcars per year.
Alejandro is married to Diana (47), and they have 3 sons and 3 grandkids living in Monterrey. He enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, and spending time with family.
The God of Second Chances
Looking at Alejandro’s resume today, you see a polished executive. But his story didn't start in a boardroom; it started in brokenness.
Alejandro grew up with a single mother after his father abandoned the family. Despite accepting Christ at eight years old, his teenage years were marked by rebellion and a search to fill the void left by his earthly father. He fell into drug use and eventually dropped out of school entirely.
At 17, lost and heading down a dangerous path, he met Diana. By 18, they were pregnant. For many, this would be a crisis. For Alejandro, it was God’s wake-up call.
"I think that was a break-even point... when I realized that I was going to be a father. So it was like a calling that came back."
Alejandro returned to school, restarted his faith, and committed to becoming the provider his new family needed. His story is a powerful reminder that God doesn't look at our current mess; He looks at our future potential. When we surrender our failures to Him, He rewrites our history.
The Courage to Raise Your Hand
Growth is a Spiritual Discipline
In 1997, Alejandro Doria answered a newspaper ad for a bilingual accountant at a small company called Bulkmatic. At the time, the Mexico branch had only two employees. Today, that same company employs over 850 people.
Alejandro’s rise from an entry-level accountant to President wasn't just about business acumen; it was about a spirit of service and boldness.
The 25-Year-Old General Manager
Early in his career, Alejandro realized he wasn't just a "numbers guy"—he loved operations and people. When a critical General Manager position opened up in Mexico City—a role that previous partners had failed to fill—Alejandro didn't shrink back in fear. He raised his hand.
"I raised my hand and I told my boss that I wanted the position... He told me, 'This is a tough position... you have to move from Monterrey to Mexico City and start over again there.'"
At just 25 years old, he moved his young family to a new city to take on a role usually reserved for 45-year-old veterans. He attributes this rapid elevation not to his own power, but to "God's anointing".
Leadership Lesson
God often places opportunities in front of us that look too big for our resume. He does this so that when we succeed, we know it wasn't our strength, but His. Are you willing to raise your hand for the hard assignments and trust God with the outcome?
Prayer Over Panic in the Boardroom
When the Numbers Don't Add Up
It is easy to have faith when the profits are up. But what happens when the banks predict you will be bankrupt in four months?
In June 2019, Alejandro was appointed President and CEO of Bulkmatic Mexico. But there was no honeymoon phase. The company was reeling from internal fraud, and financial analysts predicted they would collapse by December of that year.
"I realized that I cannot do anything by my own forces. So I needed God... my faith grew a lot from that point."
The $10 Million Miracle
The situation was dire. Cash was gone, banks were saying "no," and then the COVID-19 pandemic hit in early 2020. By all human logic, the company should have folded.
But Alejandro chose prayer over panic. He led his team with a peace that surpassed understanding because he knew God was in control. Then, the impossible happened. In December 2020, a bank that had no prior relationship with them offered a $10 million loan—essentially a lifeline with no guarantee.
"It was a miracle. So they throw $10 million with basically no guarantee and that doesn't happen."
This miracle wasn't just about money; it was God validating that when we surrender the boardroom to Him, He takes care of the bottom line.
Miracles in High Places
God Opens Doors No Man Can Shut
Just as the company began to recover from the financial crisis, another blow struck. In June 2021, the Mexican government shut down three of Bulkmatic’s key terminals.
For a logistics company, this is a death sentence. Alejandro faced the terrifying reality that a single government decision could wipe out decades of work. But once again, God intervened in a way that only He can.
An Audience with the President
Alejandro was granted a private audience with the President of Mexico. Out of 18 companies facing similar issues, Bulkmatic was the only one to secure such a successful outcome from the meeting.
"I have never dreamed of being in front or talk to a president... He told us, 'It looks like you are good guys, a good company. Let's reopen your terminals.'"
The Peace of God
During this turbulent time, Alejandro’s team asked him how he remained so calm. His answer was simple: Prayer. He knew that whether the company survived or failed, God was sovereign.
This story reminds us that Christian leaders have access to a "Situation Room" higher than any government office. When we appeal to the King of Kings, He can move the hearts of earthly kings.
The Triangle of Marriage & Legacy
More Than a CEO
Alejandro Doria’s success isn't defined solely by railcars and revenue. It is defined by the legacy of faith he builds in his family and his community.
He and his wife, Diana, learned early on that a strong marriage requires a divine strategy. They follow the "Triangle of Marriage": God is at the top, and the husband and wife are at the bottom corners. To get closer to each other, they must move up toward God .
"If you guys want to be close to each other, you got to get closer to God."
The Bulkmatic Footprint
This alignment with God has spilled over into the company culture. Diana now leads the "Huella Bulkmatic" (Bulkmatic Footprint) program, a volunteer initiative where employees serve their local communities.
They provide food, clothes, and job assistance to immigrants traveling through Mexico. For many young employees, this is their first taste of serving others, transforming not just the community, but the company’s heart.
When asked what he would put on a billboard for the world to see, Alejandro didn't offer business advice. He offered life advice:
"Make Jesus the Lord of your life. If you do that, you accomplish your purpose on earth."
Success is fleeting, but a life built on the Rock of Ages lasts forever.
