He Was About to Give Up — Then God Opened Two Doors at Once

The Blueprint of a Faithful Journey
Have you ever planned out your entire life, only to have a single moment completely change your direction?
It is easy to get stressed when our plans fall apart. But as the Bible reminds us, we can make our plans, but the Lord is the one who truly guides our steps. That is the exact blueprint of Victor M. Font Jr.’s life. He didn't start out planning to be a tech expert, a cybersecurity guru, or a published author. He simply took the hand of Jesus and walked where he was led.
Meet Victor M. Font Jr. Victor is an enterprise-level information technology (IT) and cybersecurity expert living in Raleigh, North Carolina. He has been writing professionally since the late 1970s and has authored books on the software development lifecycle, cybersecurity governance, and even a 12-book theological series called The Alien Deception Chronicles.
When Victor was finishing high school, he had his eyes set on a career in medicine. He was enrolled in a pre-med program when tragedy hit home: his father suffered a stroke. At just 18 years old, Victor had to step up, leave school, and take a job pumping gas to support his mother and four siblings.
It was a heavy, emotional weight for a teenager. Yet, right there at the gas station, God opened a door. A local businessman sponsored Victor to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). That act of kindness launched Victor into a grueling, ten-year career as a mobile intensive care paramedic, responding to over 25,000 emergencies.
Victor literally spent a decade saving lives physically. But God was preparing him for something even bigger—learning how to anchor his hope in Christ when life gets chaotic.
From Saving Lives to Writing Code
Spending ten years on the front lines of emergency medicine takes a deep emotional toll. Eventually, Victor felt the heavy weight of burnout and noticed he was losing his sense of empathy. It’s a reality many of us face when we try to carry the world's pain on our own shoulders.
Knowing it was time for a change, Victor took a massive leap of faith. He left the medical world behind and bought into a computer store with a fellow Christian partner.
At the time, Victor didn't have a formal tech degree—he taught himself how to program! He couldn't afford expensive software, so he started writing software reviews for tech companies just so they would send him free samples. Talk about creative problem-solving!
Eventually, a local video store hired him to build a digital point-of-sale and inventory system. Victor bought books on coding, stayed up studying, and built the system from scratch.
What makes this shift so beautiful is how Christ was at the center of it. Victor realized that the satisfaction he used to get from physically saving a life could translate into serving others through technology. Seeing the relief on a business owner's face when a computer program made their stressful job easier became Victor’s new passion. He realized that whatever your job is, if you do it with a servant’s heart, the Lord turns your work into a ministry.
The Gift of Generosity
As Victor’s tech career grew, he transitioned into high-level IT roles for massive enterprise companies like Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and CarQuest. He became an expert in the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)—which is basically the master plan for how giant corporations build and sunset their software applications.
In 2010, Victor published a textbook called The Ultimate Guide to the System Development Life Cycle, based on a year of intense research he had done. The book became a massive hit and was even used in college classrooms internationally.
But a few years ago, Victor received an emotional letter from an IT teacher in Mexico City. She explained that the $50 price tag for the book's digital PDF version was simply too expensive for her struggling students, and she had to pay for educational materials out of her own pocket.
Victor didn't look at this as a lost business opportunity. Instead, he took it to the Lord in prayer.
Moved by compassion, Victor decided to make the PDF version of his textbook completely free for students worldwide. Today, whenever a new semester starts, students from Mexico, Pakistan, Asia, and all over the globe download his book for free.
Victor’s leadership style isn't about hoarding wealth or protecting his intellectual property. It’s about Christ-like generosity. He proves that when you are faithful with what God gives you, the real blessing isn't the money you make—it's the lives you impact.
Trusting the Provider in the Darkest Valleys
If you think Victor's story is just a straight line of constant success, think again. He has walked through some incredibly dark financial valleys.
Back when he co-owned his computer store, they secured a major government contract to resupply U.S. Navy ships. They delivered $30,000 worth of equipment across three ships, but a massive military paperwork mix-up put a freeze on their payments. For a small business, a $30,000 missing paycheck is devastating. Victor couldn't pay his employees and was forced to close the store.
Years later, while working as a high-level IT director at Pfizer, two of the company’s biggest patented medications expired in the exact same month, causing the company to lose $25 billion overnight. Pfizer had to lay off 40,000 employees—including Victor.
Desperate to provide for his family, Victor mailed out 4,000 resumes. Can you imagine the emotional exhaustion of sending 4,000 applications and getting zero interviews locally?
But Victor and his wife kept praying. They realized God might be moving them somewhere new. Suddenly, two interviews popped up in Raleigh, North Carolina, leading to a fantastic new job that even provided the down payment for their new family home.
Then, just a few years later during the 2008 recession, Victor faced another corporate layoff. Instead of panicking, he finally launched out on his own as an independent consultant and has been successfully self-employed ever since.
Victor's story reminds us of a powerful truth: A job is just a temporary pipeline, but Jesus Christ is the ultimate river that never runs dry. When a pipeline closes, the River will always find another way to reach you.
Standing in the Gap with Cybersecurity and Truth
Today, Victor’s business has morphed into a cutting-edge field: cybersecurity governance.
Through his consulting firm, the Cyber Governance Center, Victor helps businesses, boards of directors, and non-profits build architectures that prove they are protecting sensitive data and complying with federal laws. He writes books, publishes a highly successful LinkedIn newsletter, and designs applications to protect organizations from devastating digital breaches.
But if you ask Victor what truly drives his heart today, it isn't just protecting computer servers—it’s protecting human souls.
Living in the South, Victor noticed a trend he calls "generational Christians"—people who attend church simply because their parents or grandparents did, but who don't actually have a personal relationship with Jesus. Victor recalls a time he went door-to-door with a pastor and met a man who thought he was saved just because he sat in a pew his whole life. Victor gently challenged him with the truth of the Gospel, and that very night, the man truly gave his life to Christ.
Whether Victor is writing a technical blueprint for a corporate boardroom or writing a theological book about the end times, his leadership style remains the same: stand firmly in the gap, speak the truth in love, and point everyone back to the cross.
No matter how dark or uncertain the world gets, Victor’s life is living proof that if you anchor your hope in Jesus, your story will always be secure.
